NKF launch public education department in Kota Bharu

Kota Bharu, 25 August 2017 – In an effort to raise awareness on kidney disease and encourage organ donation, the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia (NKF) has launched the Regional Unit in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

NKF’s public education department healthcare professionals are stationed at the unit to provide easily accessible information which includes mobile health screening, health talks, health exhibitions, road shows and activities.

The guests of honour present at the launch ceremony were YB. Dato’ Dr. Ramli Bin Mamat, Exco of State Government cum Chairman of the People's Wellbeing, Health, Environment and NGO Committee, and Y Berusaha Mr. Maniam Raman Chettiar, Member of NKF Board of Directors-cum-Acting Chairman Patient Selection & Welfare Committee, NKF.

“I am very proud to be given the opportunity to officiate the launch for the public, not only in the city of Kota Bharu but also the entire state of Kelantan. I understand the workforce is prepared to provide public talks at conferences, schools, colleges, mosques and other public places to spread information on the cause of kidney disease, prevention and detection measures. We want to play a big part in reaching out and helping those in need for easy access on information that they require,” said YB. Dato’ Dr. Ramli.

“As the regional unit is now in Kota Bharu, we hope to do our part towards increasing public awareness on kidney disease, organ donation and improving the quality of life for kidney patients here in Kelantan,” said Mr. Maniam Raman Chettiar.
During the launch event, there were various activities to engage closely with kidney patients and visitors such as free health screenings, colouring competition for children, fruit preparation and lucky draw.
