The Taipei City Government has built two brand new sporting venues, the Taipei-Heping Basketball Gymnasium and the Taipei Tennis Center for the summer university games – the 2017 Summer Universiade.

The 2017 Summer Universiade will take place mainly in Taipei from August 19 to 30. With 22 competition categories, the mega sporting event will be the largest international tournament ever held in Taiwan.

The newly constructed venues feature the latest green architectural concepts.

The Taipei-Heping Basketball Gymnasium is about 26,000 square meters in size and can seat 6,000 spectators.

Built to the requirements of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and International University Sports Federation (FISU), the world-class gymnasium was awarded Taiwan’s Gold Grade Green Building Candidate Certificate for its carbon reduction and rain water storage features.

Meanwhile, The Taipei Tennis Center has a seating capacity of 9,000.

The center consists of a central court, a first court, four indoor courts and fourteen outdoor courts. The center features sustainable construction materials and water conservation facilities, and was awarded the Diamond Grade Green Building Candidate Certificate.
